They still have a low representation in these sectors, and they face several obstacles to entry and advancement.      The persistent gender stereotypes that link STEM with masculinity are one of the key causes of women's underrepresentation in STEM areas. These preconceptions may deter girls and women from enrolling in STEM programs and careers.
